Voice.ai Raises $6M for Real-Time AI Voice Filter

Real-time AI speech modulation startup Voice.ai has raised $6 million in a funding round led by Mucker Capital and M13. Voice.ai leverages AI to filter a user’s voice so that they sound like someone or something else while conversing during a video game or other online interaction.

Voice.AI Speech

Voice.ai provides its AI speech-to-speech converter as an app for desktop computers and both Android and iOS mobile devices. Content creators and video game developers players use the software for social media videos, online conversations, and in games like Fortnite, Minecraft, League of Legends, and several others. Users can either design their own voice or pick one from the more than 50,000 voice options in the startup’s library, with the option to adjust those as well. Voice.ai claims there are nearly half a million users trying on someone else’s vocal cords. The company has grown thanks in part to a very engaged Discord community of more than 120,000. There is a long waitlist at the moment, which the funding should help ease. Voice.ai is also planning on expanding its availability to metaverse platforms, adding languages, and making the AI better at expressing when a user is singing.

Augmented Audio

Voice.ai is not alone in bringing synthetic voice generation to video games and online conversations. Voicemod, which raised $14.5 million earlier this year, created a real-time speech-to-speech converter last year for its catalog of voices, which includes licensed voices from the Angry Birds franchise, rapper ODB, and the Trailer Park Boys. Voicemod also released its PowerPitch feature to improve the realism of altered voices and the Voicemod Developer Kit to bring its tech to third-party software and hardware developers, culminating in a deal with Tencent. The company is even ahead of Voice.ai in the song category, having acquired text-to-song startup Voctro Labs in December. Voctro created an app whereby users pick a tune and write their own lyrics to be performed by an AI singing voice.
