OpenAI Gears Up for Mid-Year Launch of GPT-5: Report

OpenAI is preparing to unveil GPT-5, the next generation of its large language model, in the next few months, according to leaks in a report from BI. GPT-5 is on track for summer release and has already been demonstrated to some of OpenAI’s enterprise customers.

GPT-5

According to those who have witnessed GPT-5’s enhancements, there have been significant improvements compared to the currently used GPT-4, which was released last March 14. The demonstrations showcased company-specific use cases and teased autonomous AI agents and other new features. There’s no official word on a release, but summer is seen as the most likely rollout date. Currently, OpenAI is engaged in the process of training GPT-5. Then, there will be safety testing and quality control exercises. These will include red teaming, where employees and external parties will attempt to identify potential issues or vulnerabilities before the model is made available to the public.

The enterprise focus for GPT-5 previews is interesting as it suggests the new model will be pitched mainly toward organizations willing to pay for the most advanced version of OpenAI’s LLMs as well as the most powerful ChatGPT variants. OpenAI probably hopes that GPT-5 will not only impress the general public but also address concerns about the reliability and quality of outputs from previous models, which have been subject to criticism from every corned.

GPT-4.5 Turbo

This is the second recent leak about OpenAI’s future LLMs. Search engine indexing inadvertently revealed information about the upcoming GPT-4.5 Turbo model. The bit of text visible in the search results cite GPT-4.5 Turbo as OpenAI’s “fastest, most accurate, and most scalable model to date.” The brief description says it will have a context window of 256,000 tokens, effectively doubling the capacity of the GPT-4 Turbo to around 200,000 words. That’s well above the improved models unveiled in January. Presumably, GPT-5 will be even more powerful and have an even better memory.
