You Can Buy Amazon Echo on Google Express, but Not Google Home on Amazon.com
Who has an open ecosystem? That will be an increasingly important question as voice assistant adoption grows. Most of the focus will be on which third-party devices and platforms are supported by the leading voice assistants. Another consideration is where you can acquire those devices. On that front, Google is more open today.
Buy An Amazon Echo on Google Express
Not only can you purchase an Amazon Echo through Google Express (i.e. Google’s answer to Amazon.com), you can can get it at a $10 discount. You can also purchase the Amazon Echo 2nd Generation, the first generation Echo and Echo Show at a $50 discount. Google Express sells products online on behalf of a number of retailers. Many of those retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond and Fry’s Electronics sell Amazon’s line of smart speakers. That means the devices are available on Google Express and eligible for free shipping too.
A search for Google Home on Amazon.com doesn’t provide a comparable opportunity to purchase Google’s smart speaker product line. Google WiFi is offered along with some custom coverings for Google Home. However, you can’t purchase the smart speaker devices. Amazon does take the opportunity to promote several Echo products as search results. One day we may see Google Home on Amazon.com, but I don’t expect that to happen very soon.
