Joe Rogan Sees ‘Very Slippery’ Future in Deepfake Joe Rogan Podcast
A deepfake Joe Rogan’s podcasting skills are giving the real one a little anxiety. The new Joe Rogan AI Experience recently went viral and its ChatGPT-composed script and synthetically generated voice clones of the hugely successful podcast signal to Rogan that the future is “going to get very slippery.”
The first episode of the deepfake podcast has the AI imitation of Rogan interview a similarly artificial version of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for a metafictional discussion of the generative AI technology making the podcast possible. The synthetic voices express amazement and concern as they debate the ethics of an AI-generated Eminem song and whether Elon Musk can use it to build robots and colonize Mars. There are two episodes so far of the deepfake show, the second episode has the Rogan AI interview former president Donald Trump in a move guaranteed to maintain the virality of the show.

ChatGPT wrote the script but the creator hasn’t shared what they used to synthesize the voices. There are plenty of options as every syntehtic voice startup seems to include Rogan as an early example and demo. That may be because of his popularity, but likely also because there is such a huge database of him speaking on his show. This isn’t the first AI Rogan podcast or deepfake Eminem song. French DJ David Guetta created and played an AI-written and performed Eminem song at some of his s recent shows, calling it “Emin-AI-em.” Synthetic voice developer Play.ht published (though later had to take down) an AI-generated Rogan interview show called Podcast.ai. The first episode featured an imaginary conversation between Rogan and Apple founder Steve Jobs written by OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model with Play.ht cloning their voices with its Peregrine text-to-speech generator.
