Why Social Robots Are Struggling – Voicebot’s Bret Kinsella Guest Hosts the Talking Tech Podcast

There was a time when social robots were expected to become a big deal. Instead, two of the most prominent social robots, Jibo and Kuri, were shut down this year. What happened? Well, headless robots that we all call smart speakers arrived. Surprise! An Amazon Echo Dot or Google Home Mini can do most of the things a social robot does and many more things that robots cannot do for less than 10% of the price.

This week I was asked to guest host the Talking Tech Podcast which was created by Jefferson Graham from USA Today. It’s a short daily podcast and I devote about three minutes to the rise and fall of the social robots and what type of robot is likely to succeed in the future. It’s a quick listen. You can also read my article on the topic in USA Today here.
