Jeopardy! contestant Alexa Jakob made a deep impression on many viewers on Wednesday despite not winning the game because every time host Ken Jennings said her name it would set off their Echo smart speakers and other Alexa-enabled devices. It happened often enough that Amazon felt compelled to respond and remind people that they can always mute their devices. As for Jakob, an electrical engineer, when not on TV, this was one tech issue she decided was not part of her responsibilities.
One of the contestants on tonight’s Jeopardy is named Alexa, and my Alexa device keeps getting triggered.
Her latest response was, “I don’t know the answer to that.”

Hello! We’re sorry for this inconvenience! If needed, you could temporarily mute your Alexa device. -Christie

Also, if you’re complaining that your Amazon device was set off tonight – I can’t do much about that!
