Mindfulness and Media Meet in New Real Simple Relax Alexa Skill

Skilled Creative debuted a new Alexa skill on Monday as a guided introduction to meditation. Real Simple Relax highlights the way media companies are exploring new ways to apply voice apps to their brands.

Mindful Voices

Real Simple Relax provides a mix of guided meditations and general suggestions on how to meditate. The goal of the skill is to lay out the basics for those who don’t meditate and help them set a regular meditation practice. The four meditations are all entirely audio produced and include visuals for use on Amazon Echo Show smart displays.

Real Simple is a division of Meredith, a media and lifestyle brand that focuses on women. Real Simple Relax is Meredith’s second Alexa skill under that brand, built in partnership with Meredith’s newest brand addition, Stop, Breathe & Think. The original Real Simple skill offers advice on organizing and simplifying everyday life, while Relax specializes in teaching meditation.

“Mindfulness continues to be a leading use case in voice,” Skilled Creative CEO Brandon Kaplan told Voicebot. “And by really leaning into the highest possible production, and a smart partnership between Real Simple and Stop Breathe and Think, this skill represents the best “starter” meditation experience in-market.”

Unique Audio Experience

Media companies continue to build out their voice apps as they discover ways to enhance their brand with the medium. Brands are using skills to deliver free samples of soda or perfume, create a tie-in audio game, open up a new channel for people to buy things, and more. Voice technology offers a still relatively unexplored way to augment a company’s message. Specialized media like Real Simple can find and grow a whole new audience with the right voice app.

“Voice is increasingly becoming a key pillar of our omni-channel presence. Voice unlocks an entirely new channel for us, not just of delivery but of creation,” Meredith Corporation senior innovation manager  Rachel Reed told Voicebot in an email. “We are able to build custom experiences with our audiences in mind, and deliver something uniquely compelling that can’t be replicated across other mediums.”
