Update: Amazon Agrees to Hand Over Echo Voice Recording in Murder Case

Last week we reported that Amazon filed a motion to repeal a search warrant for the Echo voice recordings of murder suspect James Andrew Bates. But this morning, Gizmodo reports that Amazon has agreed to hand over the data, but only after the defendant gave authorities permission. The Echo in question was found at the crime scene, leading the prosecution to believe the device could have potentially captured some voice recording of the conversations prior to the murder in question. It remains unclear if the recordings contain any relevant information to the case, but a hearing is scheduled for this Wednesday which could provide the answer. Stay tuned.
