AT&T Now Enables Texts from Alexa
AT&T users can now send texts using Alexa. As of this morning, the AT&T website has instructions on how its customers can use the new service.
Pocket-lint reported, “AT&T said it’s the first carrier to offer an Alexa skill for SMS.” That sounds correct. Voice texting was one of the original Siri features and is among the most used. This is an area where the mobile leaders like Apple and Google’s Android have an advantage today over Alexa, Hound, Cortana and other consumer voice assistants that don’t have a mobile device heritage. Alexa has enough momentum that you can expect Verizon to follow with a similar solution, but it is not clear that there will be incentive for the carriers to support the other voice platforms.
