iFixit Performs a Google Home Teardown

iFixit published a teardown of Google Home this week, giving it a Repairability Score of 8 out of 10. The Amazon Echo scored a 7 in its teardown last year. But the folks over at iFixit did find a few surprises when they cracked open the Google Home making me wonder about the overall quality of the device.

First, Google Home only has two microphones. For those of you counting at home, the Amazon Echo has seven. The second discovery is that the makeup of the motherboard is extremely similar to Google’s Chromecast device. At $50 cheaper, Google Home could be more attractive to consumers than the Amazon Echo because of the lower price tag. But $129 could be a steep price to pay for a larger, fancier version of the Chromecast with speakers.
